lolol I am at trivia and one of the categories is 'hard boiler slang'.
I don't think any character has ever squeed so loudly in my head.

Okay, so after a lot of hassling, I allowed some friends to show me this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, officially my first episode ever of the show, and now I'm hooked. I'd like to go back and watch - probably only the most recent run - but I've been told that it's better to watch the seasons out of order?
I know there's some Who fans out there - recommendations?

What'd I miss?

I have finally finished moving, and after an epic struggle have internet again. I'M BACK ON THE INTERWEBS, BAYBEE.
I have been taking some weird steps to balance the lack of RP in my life. For one thing, I have begun masterminding a large-scale chess tournament in Toronto, which is hella nerdy. I have also tricked my old D&D group from Vancouver into playing an 'online campaign' that I'm DMing, which will actually be a text-based social roleplay set in Victorian England. I look forward to completely confusing them with no stats, no combat, and plenty of class hierarchies and comedies of manners. I warned them to read Susannah Clarke for a framework, but noooo, they just want to equip themselves with +2 warhammers and whatnot. :/
Anywho, I should figure out my Spygame apps. When does that thing start, November? >.>
ALSO - my film got accepted to its first festival. :D Sure, it's just the Hamilton Film Festival, but it's a start!

Okay, I'M BACK. The festival was amazing, and while I had the occasional star run-ins (Faye Dunaway actually showed me her ID to prove her identity, and Rachel McAdams was very sweet) it was a pretty down-low experience fandom wise. I reviewed a bunch of shows, and the one that got my top rating was Bunraku. A post-apocalyptic martial arts neo-noir western samurai film? How could a genre nut like me not love the hell out of it.
So yeah, if anyone wants to catch me up on the state of the union, it'd be much appreciated. I'm guessing MP shut down while I was gone? Sadface.

Okay, I'm still buried in TIFF and gone for a few more days, and I'm sorry if anyone has covered this, but is anyone else getting an onslaught of bot comments on old posts from the accounts 'xinqing' and 'mituan' hocking watches and such? Because I'm getting a few dozen a day and it is ANNOYING AS HELL.

For those of you who asked, beneath the cut are the films I will be seeing at this year's TIFF. Got a lot of my top choices, which is pretty exciting.
( Here there be film nerdery... )

I'm not going down to work out my full festival schedule till tomorrow, but I just tried to pick up a few of my absolute must-sees, and managed to get two of them. One is James Gunn's American film SUPER, starring Rainn Wilson as quirky loser who moonlights as a superhero. The other is Leon Ford's Australian film Griff the Invisible, starring Ryan Kwanten as a quirky loser who moonlights as a superhero.
My tastes? Yeah, they're pretty predictable.
Oh yeah, and one of my top favourites from last year was Peter Stebbings' Canadian film Defendor, starring Woody Harrelson as a quirky loser who moonlights as... you get the idea.

To update: I did not get eaten by bears. That said, I'm pretty sure the bastards followed me back into the city, so I'm not 'out of the woods' yet. So to speak.
Unfortunately I am currently in the midst of the hell known as apartment hunting, compounded by job hunting. These factors, in addition to TIFF beginning next week, mean I'll still be pretty scarce for the next little bit. You are all resigned to loving me from afar.

Heading out into the wilderness with six guys, eight flats of beer, three bottles of whiskey, and one platter of brownies. Be back soon - I hope.
Also, please note the weirdness:

There are a lot of loud, drunk voices in my voicemail. At least one of them is Mike's.
Also Scott Pilgrim is just as good the second time around, and I haven't watched a movie twice in the theatres since, well, probably forever. Not Avatar, not Inception, not none of 'em, but this was twice in one weekend. Because Toronto fucking rocks, and if you trash talk it you get your ass turned into a bunch of coins, you cocky cock!

This is totally a film Sebastian made. Being banned in Korea would be a high honour for him, I think. I'm amused that it stars my two Korean PBs, as a twisted sociopath and a righteous protector - except they're reversed. :|
Either way I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS.

QUESTION FOR YOU, RPLANDIA: A while back - maybe a few years - everyone was obsessed with some karaoke website that let you record audio or video of you singing songs with the instrumental track provided. I am trying to find this site but I don't remember what it was called. Can anyone help me?
And the first person who says YouTube is getting a KICK IN THE JUNK.
EDIT: Found it. As you were.

Jen and Julie just called me to inform* me that they had won a pre-screening of Scott Pilgrim, and were at the time following Edgar Right through San Diego towards the theatre. As a result I am hereby negating my friendship with Julie and my whatever with Jen.

I HAS MY SCOTT PILGRIM 6! brb reading
trickyloki: Julie and I had to coax and cajole the comic guy to sell me my copy
trickyloki: But the guy was all 'we don't sell new comics till Wednesday'
trickyloki: And I was like 'fuck you man, I know you have it in the back, this little Ninja Viking to my left will KICK YOUR ASS if you don't get me my copy'
trickyloki: And Julie was all rawr rawr
skycornerless: can I pretend this is what actually happened?
skycornerless: because it makes me really happy
trickyloki: Who's to say it didn't?
Speaking of, I need some Scott Pilgrim icons. Anyone got a hookup?
